People of Substance series

Judy Bagshaw - continued

M2H - Have you any Family Experiences or stories you wish to share?

Judy - My parents and brother are proud of who I am and what I am doing and have become my staunchest supporters and fans. But for a very long time, my parents worried about the fact that I was large, fearing health problems. It took me finding my voice and my love for myself to be able to talk to them about this. I made it clear that I needed them to accept me as is, because I got enough censure from the rest of the world. They've been great ever since. I don't think the worry has disappeared but at least it's not a bone of contention between us.

M2H - Any love and romance experiences?

Judy - I've been lucky, really lucky in many ways. I've known incredible love and I've known what it was like to be adored and treated like a beautiful, desirable woman. Even though I have not yet found someone with whom to spend my life, I still consider that I have been blessed in the romance department. I'm a hopeful romantic and still think that even at my age I could meet my soul mate.

M2H - Sex – This is a very personal topic that you may skip if you wish. We'll leave this open ended. Any comments?

Judy - I think one of the biggest prevailing misconceptions about fat people is that we are not sexual beings. That of course, is absurd. I've been fortunate to have a couple of great relationships with true FA's over the years. Through them I saw the beauty of my body and gained confidence in my sensual self. I wish this same kind of awareness for all large people.

M2H - Any final thought you'd like to share?

Judy - I would love to see a day when telling fat jokes is as abhorrent as using racial slurs.
